Massimo Giorgi
Massimo Giorgi began his musical career from an early age entering the “Schola Cantorum” of the Sixtine Chapel in Rome. These years of study and performances in the boys choir reveal his musical sensitivity and his entrance later to the Conservatorio of S. Cecilia in Rome is inevitable. As a pupil of Salvatore Pitzianti he gains his diploma rapidly with high marks. Upon receiving his diploma, he was immediately invited to join the Chamber Ensemble “I Solisti Aquilani”, for his talent and musical skill. Shortly thereafter he began a long series of engagements as a soloist, performing the most famous works for the double-bass. He has performed in hundreds ofconcerts around the world in some of the most prestigious festivals and concert halls in Europe, Canada, the United States, Central and South America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. He has recorded for all the major international television and radio stations. He has also made many appearances as a guest soloist with many Italian and foreign ensembles and orchestras (Chamber Ensemble of Rome’s S. Cecilia, Orchestra of Mantua, Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese, Orquestra de Cordoba, etc).
To honour the one hundredth anniversary of Bottesini’s death, he recorded a CD with the “Solisti Aquilani” dedicated to the works of the famous virtuoso, issued by the recording company Nuova Era. His last CD, distributed by Koch Swann, includes works by Dragonetti, Bloch, Bottesini, Cimador and Eccles. He is invited on a regular basis to give and specialization courses throughout Italy, Europe and South America. He is currently a professor at the Music Conservatory “S. Cecilia” in Rome and at IMEP (Institut Supérieur de Musique et Pédagogie) in Namur (Belgium). He played as principal double bass in Palermo’s Teatro Massimo until 2003. He is often invited as member of the juryin national and international competitions. |
