
Fulvio Angius, choral conductor and musicologist, was
born in Livorno. He studied composition with M. Abbado
and orchestral conducting with S. Celibidache, C. Zecchi
and J. Barbirolli.
He is very active as an orchestral conductor in Italy
and abroad with various ensembles and symphony orchestras,
among them the Complesso Cameristico di Bologna, the Orchestra
da Camera Bolognese, the Orchestra Sinfonica del Teatro
Comunale di Bologna and the Orchestra Sinfonica della
RAI di Torino.
From 1959 to 1962 he was music critic for Il Resto del
Carlino; from 1968 to1972 he was director of the chorus
of Teatro Comunale di Bologna and from 1973 to1982 of
the chorus of RAI Torino.
As such, he participated in the Biennale di Venezia and
in the première of "La vera storia" by
L. Berio at the Teatro alla Scala. From 1982, he was again
at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and from 1988 to1993,
director of the chorus of RAI of Rome.
He also taught at the Conservatorio "F. Morlacchi"
of Perugia and at the Conservatorio "G. Verdi"
of Torino. At present, along with his composition activities,
he is director of the chorus of the Teatro Carlo Felice
di Genova, presides over the Accademia Filarmonica di
Bologna and is an instructor at the Accademia AIDA.
Upon agreement with the instructor Students will examine
and discuss the works of Palestrina, Monteverdi, Banchieri,
Marenzio, Ravel, Hindemith and Strawinsky among others.
Each participant will take part in
the chorus (formed also by the students). It is not
required to have specific vocal training. The student
should be familiar with the fundamentals of voice production
and problems associated with it.
Problems inherent to a choral group,
derived from singing one part while listening to and
blending with other parts, finding balance between sections,
fusion, pitch and clearness of the polyphonic discourse
will be discussed and practiced during the course.
The union of these various areas will allow the student
to learn how to conduct a choral group to the ideal
performance with all its technical and musical peculiarities.
