Rodolfo Bonucci is born in a family of musicians and among
his teachers were Salvatore Accardo, Henryk Szering and
Arthur Grumiaux, with whom he spent a long time studying
in Belgium. Mr. Bonucci won the 13th "Città
di Vittorio Veneto" violin competition and was awarded
in many other international events such as the Paganini
competition in Genoa and the Bach competition in Leipzig.
At the age of seventeen he was invited to join ensembles
such as the Virtuosi di Roma and I Musici - with these
he toured the US and several european countries as a leading
soloist.
He has performed with the greatest orchestras and in the
main auditoriums in Italy (Santa Cecilia, RAI, Orchestra
Scarlatti di Napoli, Arena di Verona, Filarmonica Romana,
etc.) and abroad (Berlin and Frankfurt Festivals, concerts
in Spain, Portugal, France, Switzerland, Finland, Argentina,
Uruguay, Brazil, Venezuela and Mexico). He has played
in duo with Bruno Canino, Jörg Demus, Gyorgy Sandor
and others.
He won the "Gonfalone d'Oro" award in 1992.
In 1990 he had his US debut with two concerts at the Carnegie
Hall in New York: with the pianist Gyorgy Sandor and Respighi's
concerto. He performed the US première of Fauré's
Concerto in New York and held recitals in San Francisco
and other cities. In 1993/94 he played Beethoven's 10
Sonatas in Detroit, San Francisco and New York. We also
owe him the re-discovery, disclosure and world's first
CD recording of Fauré's violin concerto and Domenico
Scarlatti's sonatas for violin and harpsichord (with Bruno
Canino). He also recorded on CD Locatelli's L'arte del
Violino (four Cds with the Chamber Orchestra of Santa
Cecilia), as well as chamber music by italian composers,
specially, with Canino, works by Dallapiccola. In recent
years Mr. Bonucci has started a parallel activity as conductor.
He has conducted many orchestras among which the Chamber
Orchestra of Santa Cecilia, the Budapest Opera Orchestra,
the Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, the Bilkent University
Orchestra of Ankara, the Istambul Philarmonic Orchestra,
the Yvaskyla Symphonic Orchestra, the Salzburg Chamber
Soloists. With the latter ensemble he toured the US and
Canada in 1991 as conductor and soloist. He is steady
guest of the Symphonic Orchestras of Brasilia and Bahia.
After a long-lasting cooperation with the Filarmonici
di Bologna, Bonucci recently created the Solisti di Bologna
ensemble, which has already been welcomed by audiences
and critics in Italy and abroad. The Solisti di Bologna
concert season has Mr. Bonucci himself as Artistic Supervisor
and many famous soloists as Menhuin, Pogorelich, van Asperen,
Canino, Leonhardt, Sandor, Yepes and Bream have joined
it.
