
Born in Minnesota (U.S.A.), Joan Logue graduated ‘cum
laude’ with B.A. in Piano and Theory from the University
of Washington, where she studied with the noted Dutch
teacher, Ré Koster. Having earned a scholarship
to the Aspen School of Music, where she worked with Jennie
Tourel, Hans Hotter and Leopold Simoneau, she then received
a Fulbright Scholarship to Italy, where she studied with
Luigii Ricci, Piero Guarino, Elizabeth Schwarzkopf and
Giorgio favaretto. A second prize winner of the ISCM Contemporary
Vocal Music contest sponsored by La Scala of Milan her
voice is particularly adapted to 20th Century music, and
she has sung major roles in operas of L. Berio, S. Bussotti,
G. Manzoni and A. clementi at the Teatro dell’Opera
of Rome, La Fenice (Venice), La Piccola Scala (Milan),
Teatro Regio (parma), Teatro comunale (Bologna and Firenze),
Teatro Massimo (Palermo), and for the ‘Maggio Musicale’
of Florence.
In addition, Joan Logue has sung numerous premiere
performances of new works for the Rai, BBc, Radio France,
MPR (U.s.A.), KRO and VPRO (Holland), working with the
following conductors: A. Markovsky, G. Sinopoli, Z.
Pesko, L. Berio, D. R. Davics, David Shallon, M. Pradella,
and many others. She has also appeared at many festivals:
Spoleto, Edinburgh, Israel, Athens, Automne Musicale
(Paris), and the Biennale of Venice. She performed the
lieder of Alban Berg for Italian Television, and has
made recordings for Fonit-Cetra, Ricordi, BMG, CRI,
Edipan and Pentaphon. Most recently, she sang the first
performance in Israel of Le Marteau sans Maitre of Pierre
Boulez with F. Chaslin and members of the Jerusalem
Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Logue is Professor of Voce at the Conservatory
of Music ‘L. Refice’ of Frosinone.
